Oh man, cricket's LBW rule confused me too when I first got into the game. It's one of those rules that seems simple in theory but gets *wildly* debated in real matches.
For the key conditions: basically, the ball has to hit the batsman's leg (or body) when it's in line with the stumps, and the umpire has to believe it would've gone on to hit the stumps. So if it hits the pad but misses the stumps or hits outside the line, it's not out. The "impact point" and "trajectory" stuff is what makes it so controversial - even a tiny millimeter can change the decision. Remember that 2019 World Cup final where it came down to LBW? Absolute chaos in the commentary box over that one!
