Gaziantep’s defensive line is definitely the weakest link this season – they’re conceding 1.8 goals per game and the back‑four often looks disjointed when the ball is played wide. Rizespor, on the other hand, have built a compact shape that thrives on quick transitions, and their recent 2‑1 win over Giresunspor showed how lethal those counter‑attacks can be. With Gaziantep still trying to find a reliable centre‑back partnership, I’d give the edge to Rizespor, especially if they keep the ball low and force Gaziantep to play long balls into the midfield.
The real wild card for Gaziantep is probably their new signing, Yusuf Şimşek. He’s been getting limited minutes, but his movement off the ball and ability to create space for the wingers could catch Rizespor off guard. For Rizespor, keep an eye on their left‑back, Ömer Can, who’s been contributing with both defensive solidity and occasional forward runs; a well‑timed overlap could open up the half‑space against Gaziantep’s vulnerable right flank.
Post‑match, I’d like to see the expected goals (xG) split between the two sides – Gaziantep’s xG has been lower than their actual goals, suggesting they’re overperforming, while Rizespor’s xG is usually a bit higher than what they actually score, indicating some inefficiency in finishing. Also, a heat map of the final third will show whether Rizespor’s counter‑attack really stretched Gaziantep’s defence or if Gaziantep managed to close the gaps after the first 30 minutes. Those metrics should give us a clearer picture of who truly owned the tactical battle.
