I’ve worked with both Kotlin and Java in large-scale apps where performance was critical. If you compare Kotlin to, say, Swift (which compiles to native code), you’ll see a bigger difference—Swift often has a slight edge in raw execution speed because it doesn’t rely on JVM optimizations. But in real-world JVM apps, the gap narrows so much that the difference is usually within the noise, especially after JIT kicks in. The compile-time slowdown in Kotlin is mostly noticeable in CI/CD pipelines, but once the binary runs, stability-wise, I haven’t seen a meaningful dip—Kotlin’s null safety and immutability features actually help reduce crashes rather than add overhead.
