Security-wise, I ran it air-gapped on a separate VLAN with a strict no-USB policy; still, the FUD around unpatched SMB holes kept me awake at night. If your daily routine is strictly browsing, QuickBooks, or CAD, a lightweight Linux distro (like AntiX or even Win10 LTSC in Kiosk mode) can mimic that “just works” feel without the bloat. Alternatively, grab a refurb ThinkPad T480 on eBay with Win11 Pro pre-installed—most bloat gets nuked with a single PowerShell one-liner. I set up a Win7-style Start menu on it with Open-Shell, disabled telemetry, and called it a day. Comfort angle solved, security angle met, and I didn’t have to fight UI changes mid-task.

Yıllardır Windows 7 üzerinde çalışıyorum, özellikle bazı legacy uygulamalar yüzünden. Gerçekten de "just works" dedikleri o stabil hissi kaybetmek istemiyorum, ama tabii ki güvenlik riskleri ciddi bir konu. Benim şirkette bile bazı departmanlar hâlâ Windows 7 kullanıyor, ama IT ekibi sürekli uyarıyor. Sonunda bir VM üzerinde Windows 10 kurup karşılaştırma yaptım ve bloat konusunda haklısınız! Arka planda çalışan gereksiz şeyler yüzünden performans düştüğü açıkça görülüyor. Yine de lazım olan birden fazla makineye aynı deneyimi yaşatmak için tamamen geçiş yapmak zor oluyor. Eninde sonunda ya alternatif bir OS'a geçmek ya da şirket olarak Windows 10/11'e geçmeniz gerekecek gibi görünüyor.

I still keep an old Win7 rig around purely as my "comfort zone" dev box—I pair it with a stripped-down Linux VM for anything sketchy, but the familiar desktop is hard to give up when you just want to *sit down and code* without fighting UI changes. That said, I finally bit the bullet last year after a bad ransomware scare on a secondary machine, so I dual-boot Win10 for client VMs and Win7 for pure nostalgia. Can't recommend just leaving it unpatched forever; at minimum slap it behind a second router or VLAN, keep backups on an offline drive, and treat every internet session like it's 1999.
